While some elements will only be accessible on Halloween, others will be accessible for days. With the 1.4.2 update, which was released in 2012, these eerie Easter eggs were added to the game and have since been triggered annually. Additionally, they are limited to the Minecraft Java Edition.

Minecraft's pace of producing bats

Bats may not be a player favorite, but they add to the overall vibrancy of the gloomy region. These monsters typically appear in areas with three light levels or fewer. Because players will strive to light up tunnels as they explore them, they are not the most prevalent monsters.

These creatures, however, will only appear between October 20 and November 3 when the light level is 7 or below. Even though the area is dimly illuminated, this enables bats to reproduce considerably more abundantly. Considering how frightening and eerie bats can be in real life, this Easter egg was included in the game.

Special message on the splash screen

The splash screen for the game is renowned for having additional text displayed next to the primary title. Every time the game is restarted, hundreds of messages are changed. On Halloween, however, Java Edition gamers will only see this specific text: "OOoooOOOoooo! Spooky!"

Mojang might add more splash screen text to vary it, even if this depicts the festival's silliness and spookiness. Players that open the game on October 31 will currently only see this text.

Hostile hordes carrying Jack-O-Lanterns and pumpkin carvings

A significant Halloween Easter egg has to do with zombies, wither skeletons, and skeletons. Players are aware that the game has Jack O' Lanterns and pumpkins with carved faces.

These creatures may spawn on one of these blocks on their heads on October 31. Given that carved pumpkins and Jack O' Lanterns are the most recognizable decorations used to adorn homes, this Easter egg is ideal for the frightening event.

Only 1.5% of these three hostile mobs will spawn with a Jack-O-Lantern on their heads, whereas 22.5% of them will do so with a pumpkin on their heads. The Jack O' Lantern-clad mobs are hence highly uncommon and unique. As an alternative to murdering them, players can gently catch them.

Killing these creatures and taking their enchanted weapons as treasure will also yield these blocks. Their odds of dropping the block rise by 1% for each degree of enchantment.
