Features of the Gameplay Mechanics

Extra XP

You will receive a little amount of XP for each ore you mine. The quantity varies according to the type of mineral mined.

You will receive a tiny amount of XP for employing specific components in crafting. The quantity you get is determined by the goods you use. The "acceptable ingredients" are as follows:

  • Sticks
  • Leather
  • Stone (not Cobblestone)
  • Iron Ingots
  • Gold Ingots
  • Paper
  • Slimeballs
  • Redstone Dust
  • Glowstone Dust
  • Ender Pearls
  • Diamonds

You can choose a class starting at level 5. There are currently 12 courses available (one for each skill, a pattern which I intend to keep when more skills are added). When you select a class, you will immediately get +10 levels in one skill and +5 levels in two others. The talents that are influenced are determined by the class chosen.

Furthermore, each class has an "affinity" toward mining, crafting, or combat. Mining classes gain XP for mining (provided after every 3 ores mined), Creating classes gain XP for crafting (given after every 5 crafts that employ the "allowed components"), and Combat classes gain XP for killing enemies (given instantly after killing any hostile mob).

The Wonder Talisman

The Talisman of Wonder is an item that may be used to turn certain other things into pure XP via recipes that devour the Talisman and the sacrificed item to generate another Talisman. Select a stack of things to be transformed and use the Talisman to construct them. When you use the new Talisman, the whole stack of sacrificial objects is consumed, awarding you XP based on the size of the stack and the type of goods. The following objects are convertible:

  • Coal
  • Iron Ore
  • Gold Ore
  • Iron Ingot
  • Gold Ingot
  • Diamond
  • Redstone
  • Lapis Lazuli
  • Book
  • Brick
  • Cooked Fish
  • Steak
  • Cooked Chicken
  • Cooked Porkchop
  • Pumpkin
  • Melon
  • Bread

A word of caution: For some goods worth less XP, employing a stack of less than a specific size will result in no XP and will just trash the items. Keep an eye out for this, especially when working with wood and coal.

The Unlearning Book

The Book of Unlearning is a respec item that may be used to level up your abilities and class. Using the Book will deplete it, resetting all of your skills as well as your class. It will also return all of your acquired skill points to you, allowing you to redistribute them. It will also allow you to change your class.

Enemies will only notice your presence if they turn and gaze at you while creeping. In other words, if you are sneaking, just approaching adversaries will not cause them to attack you. They're probably staring at you.

In addition, if you use a melee attack against a creature that has not detected you, you will conduct a Sneak Attack for 2x damage. This also works with bows, but the bonus is just 1.5x damage and you must be close enough to your target that they would ordinarily notice you.

Buffs from the mob

  • Hostile creatures that spawn below depth 60 and mobs that spawn more than 320 blocks away from your spawn location will gain a speed, sight range, armor (capped at -50 percent damage reduction), or attack strength increase (only affects melee attackers)
  • The effectiveness of the buff is dependent on how far the mob spawned from the player's initial spawn location (more than 320 blocks) AND how deep the mob spawned (below depth 60). The two boosts will combine!
  • Furthermore, any hostile monsters that spawn below depth 30 will receive an extra health bonus according to how far down their spawn depth is below 30 (+100% health for mobs that spawn at depth 0, +50% health for those that spawn at depth 15, etc.).

Other information: All talents are limited to 50 points, while the player's level is limited to 100. You keep your talents after death, but you won't gain any skill points until you level up past the previous highest level you died on. Additionally, this mod displays your current level in the GUI (between health and hunger), as well as the number of skill points you have if you have any. The mod is only available in single-player Survival mode and is not available in Creative mode or multiplayer worlds.
